There should be something in the lease about fire or other damages to the residence; if not and you cannot get satisfaction from the owner, you can look at the HUD website – they may have info for you
Look in your lease. If you have renter’s insurance, the cost to replace your belongings should be covered as well as payment for you to stay in a hotel or another rental for awhile. If you don’t have renter’s insurance, there isn’t much you can do.
Your ‘"rights" ? None whatsoever, unless specifically included in any contract to ‘option to purchase’. I would assume that the owner has property insurance, which will cover the owner’s financial losses. YOUR financial losses are limited to whatever insurance you had covering your possessions as a renter.
For any unresolved issues, you need to refer to your contract and have an attorney review the language contained.
Your "rights"? None. Not your property. If you have renters insurance your belongings would be covered. If not…you have a problem.
